Trend-Spotting Off Line for SEO Research
As the Monty Python folks say, “And now for something completely different:” enhancing SEO by trend-spotting while off line. Of course, you could read magazines (too slow) or go shopping (hit or miss, and too much information).
A better way to spot new trends that may help with SEO is—you won’t believe this—watching TV. If you watch as an SEO pro with an eye to spotting trends you can use in your work.
For example, popular nomenclature (slang, to us) changes constantly. If you don’t keep up with the latest, your keywords may not bring in the right market segment—especially if you are doing SEO for a site that caters to young people—who constantly evolve new slang to evade parental monitoring—and to sound…um…cool? Hip? Dank? Do you know what the current term is?
And that is just one example of off line trends driving SEO. I’m sure you can think of more.
So you do not want to (or cannot) take time to do trend research during the day, and the family is fighting over the big-screen TV at night, what do you do?
Here’s a thought: grab a cheap TV set and get Direct TV in your home or office for about $30 a month. If you want to record the programs on a DVR to review later, make that about $40 a month to have Direct TV wherever and whenever you need it.
It may sound crazy, but it could be a great investment in keeping up with the trends. Because believe it or not, if you are over 25 (at most), especially if you do not have a houseful of teenagers of your own, you are not up on the latest lingo.
Oh, and we won’t tell anyone that you got Direct TV just for yourself. Shhhhhhh!
“It’s for off-line professional SEO trend research. Honest. Really! Seriously. No kidding.”
“Riiiiight.”
