SEO Tips for Google Caffeine

Posted on March 4 2010 by admin

As of late with the new Google caffeine algorithms making their presence known, it is more important than ever to take these SEO considerations in mind.

Can You Keep Up With Google Caffeine?

Can You Keep Up With Google Caffeine?

1)      Unique Content: Content must be unique in order to remain indexed.

2)      Minimize Duplication: Duplicate content filters are more sensitive to similar templates.

3)      Increase Load Time: Load time is more important than previously.

4)      Increase Post Frequency to Expedite Authority: Post frequency is a valid metric which can resurrect rankings.

Unique content: Unique content is and always has been an important metric. With new algorithms being added daily to (a) minimize storage space (b) minimize energy consumption and computing power, content that is cookie cutter, scraped/copied from other sites is less appealing to search engine spiders.

As a result, if you are looking to augment rankings with new content, then at least make sure it is in fact new and unique in order to avoid suppression as a side effect from filters from search engines designated to identify and remove multiple occurrences (via de-indexation or deliberate omission) in search engines. In other words, just like highlander, there can be only one; and let’s be realistic a copy is just not that original.

Also, if your website is currently suffering from de-indexation (loss of pages indexed in Google), then we suggest performing a sweep and revising all the titles and meta tags on each page to be unique. Even though this may seem rudimentary, we have seen this metric alone revive interest from search engine spiders and reindexed content that was tagged previously as supplemental.

Minimize Duplication: Aside from duplicate content resulting from content in the body area of websites, also templates that share common elements can also leave a negative footprint which can suppress areas of the same website as “the same old new same” page.

Adhering to the first point made above about unique content (or having enough unique content on a page) can also help stave off penalties such as this.

Increasing Load Time: Minimizing load time by consolidating CSS, compressing images as well as compressing header files can substantially reduce load time, resulting is a faster retrieval of content and improved SERP position (if the page exceeds standards identified by search algorithms).

Increase Post Frequency: for some websites this metric is not important; it is not a constant but rather a variable which can shift based on the baseline for the industry. The concept is simple, if you are creating a post a day (adding a page a day to your website), you should maintain this trajectory in post frequency (and not lapse from this frequency).

If you are sporadic and only add a page every few weeks, or do not modify your website and use links or other metrics to supplement your website, then this is not as important. The key is, if you increase frequency to 2 or 3 posts per day, then maintain that frequency in order to keep rankings climbing for the new content and the links from those pages to deeper pages in your site to reinvigorate indexation.
