Why Kettlewell Returned To Twitter

I’m Back!

Some of you may have noticed that I (@kettlewell) was visibly absent from Twitter for an extended period of time.

Previously, I was making somewhere on the order of 20-30 updates a day, had 16,000 followers that I was sending out useful ( useless? ) information to, connecting people and businesses together, and in general, just being a happy social kind of guy.

So why did I leave?

There were a few reasons. For one, I wanted to experiment with the effect of leaving.  Would anyone notice? Would I lose or gain any productivity?

I did feel that I was splitting my time between my FaceBook profile, and Twitter,  and found FaceBook’s connection mechanisms more appealing.

But I came back to Twitter – Why?

My initial comeback was because I started updating this blog with my WordPress Portfolio page, and realized that my post to twitter plugin was still active, and so my hiatus from Twitter was accidentally over anyhow..

But I was also realizing that Twitter and FaceBook offer two completely different communication mediums to socialize with.  Two distinct personality sets. In short, FaceBook does NOT equal Twitter.  They are both social media outlets for sure, but they are unique and distinct from each other.

I like how FaceBook allows me to post a video, and it can be played inline, and has comment streams that can keep conversations fluid.  But at a price… There’s a lot of rambling non-sense that goes with that.

Twitter on the other hand doesn’t offer a very good conversation mechanism, though it does try, it’s clunky.  But it forces us to write up a status updates and information very succinctly – only 140 characters – slowing down the rambling a bit.

I seem to view Twitter as having a lot more SPAM than FaceBook does, but both allow my to filter and control things to a degree, and I mentally filter out junk anyhow…

So long and short of it is, that I’m back to harass, and I look forward to fun times on Twitter again.

See you around.
